Description
The event, which will take place on the 18th of April 2017, at the Spanish office of the European Parliament, in Madrid, is part of the activities of the pesticide action week and aims to raise awareness about the victims of pesticide exposure. Pesticides Action Week is an international initiative that takes place every year in the arrival of spring.
The objective of this meeting is to promote the reduction of the use of pesticides and avoid further negative impacts on human health, the environment and its ecosystems. PAN Europe's members Fundación Alborada and Fundación Vivo Sano, as well as Ecologistas en Acción and Wemove Europe, come together to organize this informative event that has as protagonists the victims of pesticides: people who have suffered adverse health effects following acute or chronic exposure to these substances, either in their work or households. A European "pesticide victims' day" took place in December 2016 with the support of PAN Europe and had several Spanish participants: MEP Florent Marcellesi, Judith Marquès, who is suffering from Chemical Sensitivity due to occupational exposure and Ruth Echeverría, representative of Fundación Alborada. Given that Spain at the moment is the European country with the highest sales of pesticides and with a strong agricultural sector, it was proposed to introduce this debate in our country, finding the opportunity to do so along with the "Week without Pesticides".
